From the 16th to 22nd of April,
Earth Again organised Malaysia’s largest ever environmental service movement
and pledge for green in Space U8 Eco Mall, Shah Alam. The event was held to
mark Earth Day by aiming to raise awareness among the public concerning matters
regarding the environment. For this event, pledge trees were built using
recyclable materials by corporate companies and these trees served as the
platform for the public to hang/paste their pledges for Mother Earth,
signifying the branches and leaves of the trees. These pledges are important to
register the acts with the campaign so that millions of individual green
efforts could be properly measured. In an attempt to achieve the Malaysian Book
of Records for ‘The Most Number of Environmental Pledges Collected, event
organisers hopes to gather 100,000 pledges throughout the seven days event.
In this large environmental event, Comfori
participated by constructing and building a pledge tree from recyclable
materials. For two weeks, all Comfori employees worked together in gathering
all the necessary recyclable materials for the project. The committee that was
established for the project spent countless hours constructing and
reconstructing the design for the tree. On April 13th, the committee
spent more than five hours to build the tree. As a result, the Comfori pledge tree
stands tall at over 15 feet, and stands proudly as the tallest pledge tree
during the entire Earth Week 2012 event. Raffia strings were tied to the tree
to serve as platform for the ‘pledge leaves’.
